Finishing a long-term gig
Hi there! I just finished up a long-term project. I've been working with this client for several months, helping with content for a soon to launch website called Life333. While it will be very exciting to see all of my work online, I am a bit sad at seeing this gig come to an end. Money aside, (OK, I will really miss the money!) but I will also miss working with this editor. She has been generous and more than fair and always a delight to hear from. So how do you feel about seeing a long term gig come to an end? I know that at times it can be a huge relief, but do you have times where you hated to see it end? Do you have any good suggestions for persuading a client to find a new project for you? I was able to stretch this one a bit by pitching some ideas. How about you? I would love to hear some input on this one! In the meantime, keep plugging away! Have a great weekend- take some time off and go have some fun! (And then get back to your keyboard!)

I agree - it's a bittersweet moment when you finally type # # # for the last time on a long-term gig.
It's a great time to do some evaluating, though. What went well? What didn't? What made this a fun (or not so much fun) gig? How can I find more like this? Do I want to make room in my schedule to work with this client again?
And if it's yes... nothing wrong with saying just that! (And saying it again after a month.)
I agree, Sue, it is a good time to evaluate things. I have let my client know what a pleasure it has been and that I am more than happy to jump in if any new projects come up.
She has given me some wonderful feedback and I can use that with future prospects. Plus, the site will have author profiles, so it will be some fabulous samples!
I agree also that it never hurts to get back in touch with a former client when the relationship was satisfactory for both sides. I just recently got back in touch with a client that I hadn't heard from in a couple of months, so something new will be coming down the pike there.
I love that this job is always interesting. There is so much we learn about ourselves and other people. That sparks the psychology background I had in college, so I just love it.
